A Western Caribbean cruise is one of the easiest, comfiest vacations out there. In just a few days you can snorkel clear water in Cozumel, explore Mayan ruins, and lie on a beach in Belize or Roatán, then come back to a cozy cabin and a dinner you didn’t have to cook.
Packing for it in the fall is a little tricky, though. Port days are hot, sunny and humid, but the ship’s dining room is often chilly, the decks get breezy at night, and quick afternoon rain showers pop up out of nowhere. Here’s exactly what we pack for a 5-day Western Caribbean sailing, the gear that makes our tiny cabin feel like home, and a free printable checklist so you don’t forget a thing.
🖨️ Grab the Free Printable Checklist
The 2-page checklist covers documents and money, cabin comforts, clothing, health items, your port-day bag and your carry-on. Page 2 has a day-by-day outfit planner and a before-you-leave list, so you can plan what to wear for each port and each sea day.

🛏️ Cabin Comforts We Never Cruise Without
Cruise cabins are small, and the space goes fast once everyone unpacks. These little things keep our cabin cozy and organized all week.
🔌 Power Strip (No Surge Protector)
Why we use it: Most cabins only have a couple of outlets, and after a day of taking pictures in port, everyone’s phone, watch and camera need charging. A power strip with USB ports lets us charge everything at once overnight. Cruise lines usually don’t allow surge protectors, so pick one without surge protection and check your cruise line’s rules before you go.

🧲 Magnetic Hooks
Why we use them: Cabin walls and doors are metal, so magnetic hooks stick right on with no damage. In the Caribbean they really earn their spot: we hang wet swimsuits, beach towels and snorkel gear to dry, plus hats, lanyards and our port-day bag. It’s like adding a closet in five seconds.

🚪 Over-the-Door Organizer
Why we use it: The bathroom counter in a cruise cabin is tiny, and a Caribbean cruise comes with extra bottles: sunscreen, aloe, bug spray and after-sun lotion. An over-the-door organizer keeps all of that, plus sunglasses and chargers, in one spot where everyone can find it.

🧳 Packing Cubes
Why we use them: We pack one cube per day: a Cozumel cube, a Belize cube, a sea-day cube and so on. They slide right into the cabin drawers, so unpacking takes about two minutes and nobody is digging through a suitcase for a swimsuit on port morning.

🏝️ Port-Day Essentials for Cozumel, Belize and Roatán
📱 Waterproof Phone Case
Why we use it: Western Caribbean port days are all about the water: snorkeling in Cozumel, beach breaks in Roatán, and tender boat rides in ports like Belize City and Grand Cayman. A waterproof case keeps your phone dry and still lets you snap pictures of the fish and that unreal blue water.

🔊 Portable Speaker
Why we use it: A little island music while we get ready for dinner or relax on the balcony makes the cabin feel like our own space, and it’s fun on the beach on port days too. Keep the volume low out of respect for your neighbors, and check your cruise line’s rules for speakers.

Also tuck these into your port-day bag: reef-safe sunscreen (many snorkel tours and marine parks ask for it), a refillable water bottle, a hat, sunglasses, a little cash in small bills for tips, and your ship card.
🧥 What to Wear on a Fall Western Caribbean Cruise
It’s warm and humid in port, but the ship can feel cool, so pack light clothes plus a few layers:
- Two or three swimsuits, so one can dry while you wear another
- Breathable shorts, sundresses and tees for hot port days
- A light cardigan or sweater for the chilly dining room and breezy decks at night
- A packable rain jacket for quick afternoon showers
- Water shoes for rocky beaches and snorkeling, plus comfy sandals and walking shoes for ruins and towns
- One or two dressier outfits for dinner nights
The outfit planner on page 2 of the checklist helps you plan each port and sea day so you don’t overpack.
🎒 Pack These in Your Carry-On
Your big suitcase may not reach your cabin until later on embarkation day, so keep these with you:
- Passport (strongly recommended for international ports) and boarding documents
- Medications, including anything for motion sickness
- Swimsuit and sunscreen, so you can hit the pool right away
- Phone charger and power strip
